What’s the difference between VueScan editions?

VueScan comes in three editions: Basic, Standard, and Professional. Each edition unlocks different sets of options in VueScan’s interface. Higher editions include all options from lower editions.

What edition do I need?

Not sure which edition to get?
Scanning film or slides? Get Professional.
Not scanning film or slides? Get Standard.
For simple photo and document scanning to JPEG
Basic Edition is sufficient. You can scan photos on a flatbed scanner and save them as JPEG files with automatic settings.
For scanning documents to PDF with a document feeder
Standard Edition is required. You'll get multi-page PDF support, document feeder control, and the ability to adjust resolution and color balance.
For scanning multiple photos at once on a flatbed
Standard Edition is required. The Multi crop feature automatically detects and separates multiple photos placed on the scanner glass.
For scanning film negatives or slides
Professional Edition is required. You'll need access to film-specific options like Lock film base color, Raw file output, and advanced exposure controls.
For archiving scans in raw/DNG format
Professional Edition is required. The Raw file and Raw DNG format options preserve all scanner data for future processing.
For creating searchable PDFs with OCR
Professional Edition is required. The PDF OCR text option creates searchable PDF files that can be indexed by your operating system.
For professional color management with ICC profiles
Professional Edition is required. You'll get access to color space controls, ICC profile embedding, and IT8 scanner calibration.
