I had tons of photos to scan, and after doing some research I decided to go for VueScan. I don't regret my decision. Scanning was a breeze and saved me a lot of time. I'm using a Brother All-in scanner which I bought 3 years ago and whilst its scanning software is not bad it's much slower and has way less options than VueScan. My operation system is Windows 10. I can recommend VueScan without hesitation. It''s worth the money.

Hamrick Software - I have been using VueScan for 10 years on several different computers using 3 scanner models. It really is an excellent product well maintained and exceptional value for money. It has given me a lot of pleasure over the years and helped produce some high quality scans of vintage family photography. I can recommend it to anyone.

I am absolutely in love with this software! My Nikon COOL SCAN V would only work with Windows 98 so it's been our of commission for quite a while. Thanks to VueScan, it back online and working better than ever. It is so efficient and easy to use that I'm looking forward to scanning several thousand slides that have been stored away and unusable. My scanner now works so much better than it did originally that I am incredulous. I purchased the Pro version and it is worth every penny of the reasonable price. WOW! Love it! Thank You Hamrick!!!

In Jan 2003 I bought VueScan for my Epson Perfection 1200. I used it a lot, more functions than the standard driver. Got new computers with new operating systems, forgot about VueScan. I got a new Epson scanner - old one doesn't have Win10 drivers. I remembered VueScan. Found it, downloaded the trial version, and my old EPSON 1200 scanner WORKED again. Wow, a purchase made in 2003, works on a PC with an operating system that doesn't exist in 2003. 17 YEARS later! And that for a very small amount of money. THIS IS SERVICE AND ADDING VALUE TO YOUR CUSTOMER!

It's absurd that I couldn't use my Espon WF-3520 scanner when Mac OS updated, and Epson obviously has no interest in fixing the problem. Works perfectly with VueScan 9.

Was going to send my very old HP scanjet to the landfill but thanks to Hamrick Software I won’t have to!!! Very sustainable. It works on my Macbook with Catalina OS!!!!

Vuescan Professional saved me from having to buy a new scanner when Mac Catalina no longer supported my current scanner. Much less expensive than buying a new scanner, easy to use and great quality.

I’m very pleased with the software. It recognized all scanner features and allows me to continue scan to documents after macOS update.

The Epson Perfection V700 is a highly versatile and advanced scanner designed with serious amateur photographers in mind, particularly those who have substantial collections of prints and films that need to be digitized. With its impressive hardware specifications, the V700 stands out as a premium choice for users who demand the highest quality scans. Its standout feature is the remarkable maximum optical resolution of 6,400 pixels per inch (ppi), which far exceeds the 2,400 or 3,600 ppi commonly found in many dedicated film scanners. This high resolution makes the V700 an excellent tool for capturing intricate details in both photographic prints and various types of film, ensuring that even the smallest details are preserved.
One of the key advantages of the V700 is its capability to handle a wide range of film formats, making it an exceptionally flexible option for film enthusiasts. It comes with a set of five templates that can accommodate up to eight different film types, including popular formats such as 35mm slides and strips, 120 and 220 medium formats, and even large formats up to 8 by 10 inches. This versatility makes the V700 a superior alternative to dedicated film scanners, which are often limited to fewer formats and lower resolutions. With the V700, users have the convenience of a flatbed scanner that can handle all their scanning needs, from small photographic prints to large-format films, without the need to invest in multiple devices.
In terms of film scanning, the V700 delivers outstanding performance. Its ability to produce scans with excellent dynamic range—meaning it can capture a wide spectrum of detail from the darkest to the lightest areas of an image—is particularly noteworthy. In tests, the V700 performed admirably, retaining details in both dark shadows and bright highlights, which is a critical factor for producing high-quality scans. While it did not quite match the performance of the Canon CanoScan 9950F in this regard, the V700’s results were still among the best available, making it a solid choice for demanding film scanning tasks.
For flatbed scanning of photographic prints, the V700 continues to impress. Its high resolution and dynamic range make it more than capable of handling any print with exceptional fidelity. In testing, scanned photos reproduced with almost the same quality as the originals, even when printed on an Epson PictureMate printer. The scanner’s speed is also a notable feature, with quick prescan and scan times, particularly for standard photo sizes. This makes the V700 a practical option for those with large quantities of prints to scan, providing both quality and efficiency.
One of the key considerations when choosing between a flatbed scanner like the V700 and a dedicated film scanner is the balance between versatility and performance. While dedicated film scanners may offer some advantages in specialized tasks, the V700’s ability to handle a wide range of formats and its superior resolution make it an excellent all-around choice. Users who opt for the V700 benefit from the convenience of a single device that can manage both prints and films, without sacrificing the high quality that might otherwise require multiple devices.
Although the Epson Perfection V700 is priced higher than some other scanners, it offers significant value for those who need its unique combination of high resolution, flexibility in handling various film formats, and superior scan quality. However, it’s worth noting that the V700 is primarily focused on photo and film scanning, with limited capabilities for document management and optical character recognition (OCR). The lack of an automatic document feeder (ADF) further underscores that this scanner is not designed for heavy office use but is instead tailored for users who prioritize photographic quality above all else.
In summary, the Epson Perfection V700 is a top-tier scanner that excels in both photo and film scanning. It provides a compelling alternative to dedicated film scanners, offering the versatility of a flatbed design with the performance needed to satisfy the demands of serious photographers. Whether you’re digitizing a large film archive or preserving your photographic prints in digital form, the V700 offers the quality, flexibility, and convenience to make it a worthwhile investment.

VueScan is compatible with the Epson Perfection V700 on Windows, macOS and Linux.
If VueScan isn't working with the Firewire cable, try a USB cable, try a different Firewire port or a different Firewire cable.
This scanner has an infrared lamp for scanning film. VueScan's 'Filter | Infrared clean' option can be used to remove dust spots from film scans. This is similar to (and we think better than) the ICE and FARE algorithms.
It scans with visible light in the first pass and with infrared light in the second pass.
Infrared cleaning works well with all types of color negative and color slide film, including Kodachrome. However, silver-based black/white film doesn't work with infrared cleaning because the silver particles look the same in visible light and infrared light.
If you're using Windows and you've installed a Epson driver, VueScan's built-in drivers won't conflict with this. If you haven't installed a Windows driver for this scanner, VueScan will automatically install a driver.
You can use this scanner on Mac OS X and Linux without installing any other software.
Epson sold this scanner in some countries as the Perfection V700 / GT-X900.
