Works on Windows, Mac, and Linux

VueScan works on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. It supports older scanners that don't work on newer operating systems, including most Canon LiDE, Epson Perfection, Nikon CoolScan and HP OfficeJet scanners.

Outputs scans in a variety of formats

VueScan can output scanned documents, photos, and film in PDF, JPEG and TIFF formats. It can also recognize text using OCR and create multi-page pdfs using both flatbed scanners and scanners with automatic document feeders.

Great for Beginner and Pro Users

We built VueScan so that two completely different types of users can use it. 'Guide me' mode guides you step by step through the scanner process. The Advanced mode lets you unlock powerful features to have complete control over your scan.

VueScan works with the Nikon LS-4000 on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.

If VueScan isn't working with the Firewire cable, try a different Firewire port or a different Firewire cable.

This scanner has an infrared lamp for scanning film. VueScan's 'Filter | Infrared clean' option can be used to remove dust spots from film scans. This is similar to (and we think better than) the ICE and FARE algorithms. It scans with both visible light and infrared light in a single pass.

Infrared cleaning works well with all types of color negative and color slide film, including Kodachrome. However, silver-based black/white film doesn't work with infrared cleaning because the silver particles look the same in visible light and infrared light.

All types of Nikon film adapters are supported, including the SF-200 slide feeder.

If you're using Windows and you've installed a Nikon driver, VueScan's built-in drivers won't conflict with this. If you haven't installed a Windows driver for this scanner, VueScan will automatically install a driver.

You can use this scanner on Mac OS X and Linux without installing any other software but be sure to to set up libusb device protections on Linux.

Nikon sold this scanner in some countries as the CoolScan 4000 ED.

If you have an iPad, iPhone, Android phone/tablet or Kindle Fire, you can use VueScan Mobile with WiFi scanners or the built-in camera to scan documents.
