Check System Report
Let's verify if your scanner is properly detected by your system.
Does your scanner appear in "About This Mac"?
If you're using a USB scanner, double check that it appears in the "System Report" in the "About this Mac" section.
If it doesn't appear on that list, continue with this troubleshooting wizard.
Does your scanner appear in the Windows Device Manager?
If you're using a USB scanner, does it appear in Device Manager?
Is there a yellow triangle with an exclamation point next to it? If so, check what the error message says? Does it say it loaded the Hamrick Software Driver?

Does your scanner appear in the lsusb command?
If you're using a USB scanner, does it appear in the lsusb command?
If it is recognized, that is a good sign. If it's not, that is an indication that the problem is with the connection to your computer or the scanner itself.
