VueScan works with the Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 5500 on Windows and Mac OS X.
You need to install an HP scanner driver to use this scanner on Windows and Mac OS X.
If there isn't an HP scanner driver at www.hp.com for your operating system, then unfortunately VueScan won't work with this scanner. VueScan uses a plugin library that's installed with the HP scanner drivers to talk to this scanner, and doesn't work with this scanner without this plugin library.
On Windows x64, you need to use VueScan x32 to use this scanner's transparency adapter.
This scanner isn't supported on Mac OS X Lion and later, since HP uses a PowerPC plugin for this scanner and Rosetta isn't available with Lion and later. On Mac OS X prior to Lion, you need to use the x32 version of VueScan 9.0.96 with Rosetta. To do this:
- Click on the VueScan icon while holding the Control key
- Choose 'Get Info'
- Check 'Open using Rosetta'
If you have an iPad, iPhone, Android phone/tablet or Kindle Fire, you can use VueScan Mobile with WiFi scanners or the built-in camera to scan documents.
