History of Fujitsu Scanners

Fujitsu has been the world leader in document scanners since before 1996. One of their first models was the M3093, costing more than $5,000 and scanning 30 pages per minute.

VueScan now supports 131 different models of Fujitsu document scanners, most recently the ScanSnap iX1300, which sells for less than $300 and scans at 30 pages per minute.

Fujitsu sells 68 million dollars per year of scanners, with more than a billion dollars of scanners sold in total. Fujitsu has models for corporate large-volume scanning, and models for home office scanning.

Types of Fujitsu Scanners

The original Fujitsu document scanners used SCSI, which uses a complicated interface card and a thick, bulky cable.

Except for a few SCSI document scanners released before 2002, most Fujitsu document scanners are USB 2.0 scanners. Some Fujitsu document scanners also have WiFi interfaces, but VueScan doesn’t support the WiFi interface (yet).

Market for Fujitsu Scanners

Fujitsu sold a large number of document scanners, and because they often aren’t supported on modern operating systems, you can often buy them for a reasonable price on eBay.

VueScan supports almost all Fujitsu document scanners released since 1996. The most widely sold were the ScanSnap series, and these are easy to find on eBay.

Why should I use a Fujitsu Scanner in 2024?

VueScan works extremely well with these scanners, and they seldom wear out, especially models used in the home or home office. Sometimes high-volume corporate models can get worn out after millions of pages scanned, but this is rare. There’s an active market for used Fujitsu document scanners on eBay, and they’re often sold for really low prices because drivers aren’t available for some operating systems.

VueScan also uses advanced features of Fujitsu document scanners, such as in-scanner JPEG compression to improve scan speed, automatic deskewing, automatic media size detection and double-feed detection.
